| Masonite Siding Water Damage The
big question with Masonite siding is how much of it do you replace?
All of it if you can afford and you know you will be living in your
current home for 15 or more years. That stuff is just going to keep
on rotting until every piece has been replaced.
Not going to be in this home much longer? You have two choices
then.
Staying less than five years, wait replace all the damaged areas months
before you put the house on the market. Definitely insist that the
contractor replace it with HardiPlank. This is assuming that the siding is not falling off the house and that there are no signs of the damage going further into the structure of the house. We will inspect this for you and provide a free estimate. (919) 710-9904
Staying longer than 5 years, then you probably should have all the
rotten pieces replaced and as many courses as you can afford around doors,
windows and areas where roof lines meet the side of the house. Always
insist that HardiPlank go back
Below
is my story of how this business started and some of the early work that I
was involved in. Now several years later, our specialty remains wood
rot and Masonite siding repair/replacement. Many things have been
learned with each new job and I appreciate the confidence my customers
have had in my ability to get the job done and get it done
correctly. I will be the first to explain to you that my prices may
not be the cheapest, but is cheap really how you want your home repaired?.
One of the interesting things I have learned is that many folks want to
take on the task of repairing the damage to the point that they are
actively involved in the repair. As a result of this I am now
offering a new program called DYI consulting. So if you have some
damage and you want to save on contractor and labor cost, let me
know. I am willing to meet with you give you my ideas of the work
that needs to be done and how to do it. My involvement can be as
little or as much as you want. I can do the entire job, or explain
the job to you and you do the work. I will be on call to assist with
any surprises that may surface along the way. To further show my
commitment to being there to help, I will loan to you the tools that you
may not have available.
Call or email for additional details or to setup a free initial
appointment/estimate!

Several years ago after having a sunroom added to our home we discovered
that the North side of our house was near destruction. While they were adding the sunroom
they discovered that the foundation in one corner was severely rotten and they had a
difficult time finding suitable boards to attach the sunroom.
Upon closer investigation we found the deterioration extended the full length of the
north side of the house. Because there was water being directed and trapped behind the
masonite siding (which is no more than a sponge once wet on the backside) this water was
held there and started to eat away at the structural foundation. When water is held
against wood eventually those destructive little bugs, termites, find their way there and
the destruction grows.
Before we were done we had replaced the doubled 2x8 foundation boards and studing for 5
feet up the wall on the entire north exterior wall, which unfortunately included a storage
room and chimney, along with electrical connection, phone and cable connections.
The pictures here on this page are from my neighbors house where we had to do the exact
same thing, where her deck attached to the house on the north side exterior wall. The
major cause of this damage is improper flashing installation which is a common problem in
this area.
If you have masonite siding (not vinyl or stucco) and your house is 5 years or older
and you have not had it checked for water damage call me. I will be glad to inspect it for
you and advise if any damage exist, this is a free estimate, but limited to the Cary/Apex
area at this time.

This foundation board was so wet that you could wring
water from it and easily punch your hand through it. |
